Volunteer Center staff and Guilford County Schools’ Certified Service Learning Instructors will lead teams of students through educational activities, volunteer service, and reflection exercises. Each group of students will work on and complete a service project during Service Learning Leadership Camp. Teams will be assigned a Guilford County Schools Certified Service Learning Instructors and a specific community project. 

Dates and Times: 

June 22- June 25 (Monday-Thurs.) 8am – 12pm
June 29- July 2 (Monday-Thurs.) 8am – 12pm
July 6- July 9 (Monday-Thurs.) 8am – 12pm
July 13- July 16 (Monday-Thurs.) 8am – 12pm 

Students are assigned to the following sites:

n  The Arc of High Point is committed to securing for all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities the opportunity to choose and realize their goals of where and how they learn, live, work, and play. The Arc of High Point is an affiliated chapter of The Arc of the North Carolina and The Arc of the United States.

n  LIFESPAN empowers children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing education, employment, and enrichment opportunities to live, work, and play in their communities.

n  HandyCapable is a tax-deductible non-profit, dedicated to providing developmentally disabled adults with meaningful work in a nurturing facility. We do this by training our “HandyTechs” to refurbish donated computers that we place with low-income families and other non-profits.

n  Wiley Elementary (African-American Male Initiative)
Under the leadership and program implementation of Communities In Schools of Greater Greensboro, committed volunteers will serve as mentors to African-American, Hispanic and other male students in grades 2-5 at Wiley Elementary beginning in the fall of 2011. Located in southeast Greensboro, Wiley Elementary has an enrollment of approximately 260 students, pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Approximately 65 boys are eligible to participate in the program.
